Gopher Football and Student-Athlete Development held the inaugural Gopher R.E.P.S. Program (Relationships Empowering Professionalism and Success) on Tuesday, July 23 at TCF Bank Stadium.

With the help of Linda Roberts (student-athlete development), Adam Clark (director of football operations) and Jeff Jones (director of player personnel), the University of Minnesota welcomed back over 50 Golden Gopher football alums to TCF Bank Stadium. They spoke with current student-athletes about the importance in being deliberate in their academic and professional pursuits, while sharing their expertise in their career fields.

With a welcome from Roberts, the program consisted of speeches from head football coach Jerry Kill, assistant athletics director of student-athlete development Peyton Owns III, M Club director George Adzick and Gopher football alum and associate director of compliance Jeremiah Carter. Following a dinner, round table discussions occurred as alums spoke on 14 various professions, including sales, education, marketing, finance, medical practices, coaching and law enforcement to name a few.

Prior to the R.E.P.S. event, a three-day resume workshop was held. On Monday, July 14, Carol Keers, a senior coach and Senior Vice President of Change Masters® Incorporated came to speak to the group on branding management and skill development. Keers has worked at Change Masters for 23 years and has worked with more than 1,500 executives worldwide. She specializes in the use of video coaching and works with individuals to become better leaders and communicators.

Current student-athletes have also been key in helping with the process. On the committee were Mitch Leidner, Cedric Thompson, Peter Mortell, Theiren Cockran, Cameron Botticelli, Drew Goodger, KJ Maye and Tommy Olson. The Gophers have 29 business and marketing majors, six in communications or kinesiology, five in sports management and three individuals with either an English, mechanical engineering or agricultural major. Set to be an annual football event, it is an effort to provide mentoring, leadership and guidance affiliated with the program.
