Golden Gophers senior David Cobb is on the Doak Walker Award's preseason candidates list, announced Thursday. The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back.
Last fall, Cobb became the first Gopher since 2006 to surpass 1,000 yards rushing. His 1,202-yard season total ranked 12th in program history and 27th in the nation in 2013. He also tied for the team lead with seven touchdowns.
Cobb eclipsed 100 yards in six games, including a four-game streak during Big Ten play. He rambled for a career-high 188 yards on the ground as part of his 236 all-purpose yards in a win at Indiana.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name the Doak Walker Award semifinalists on Nov. 18. The award's selection committee will vote to determine finalists, who will be announced Nov. 24. After another vote, the winner will be announced on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show Dec. 11.
