Vincent Calhoun provided a big boost to the Gophers offensive line last season blocking for an offense that rushed for 2,387 yards and 34 touchdowns.
Calhoun had previously spent two seasons at Southwest Mississippi Community College where he was a NJCAA All-American. The 6-foot-4, 330-pound lineman reminds teammates of the NFL’s Michael Oher with his demeanor off the field and his play on it. He saw action in 10 games and made seven starts last year and is ready to be a quiet leader on the offense heading into his senior season.
Pick Six With Vincent Calhoun
Gopher Sports: If you had to compete in any sport besides football what would it be and why?
Vincent Calhoun: If I competed in any other sport I would have to say golf. I love golf and am starting to get a feel for it. I wish I was better at it but I think over time people start to gradually get the hang of it. I have learned that the form is not all about strength or trying to kill the ball. You have to use your shoulders and hips so it has been a great learning experience.
GS: Celeb crush?
VC: I am in love with Jennifer Lawrence. She seems funny, cool to hang around with, talented and obviously stunning.
GS: What actor would you choose to portray you in a movie and why?
VC: I would not mind having the guy that played Big Mike/Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) in the Blindside since we look alike.
GS: What would you do if you won the lottery?
VC: Get a nice little place back in Georgia in a nice area that my dad used to work for. I would just find a nice place and find something to do in my spare time.
GS: Favorite video game?
VC: My favorite video game would have to be Call of Duty.
GS: Craziest thing anybody has ever said to you on the field?
VC: Hey, you look like a bear out on the field! That was the craziest thing. I just looked around the field wondering who had just said that to me because I don’t think I look like a bear.
