Peter Mortell was named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List announced Wednesday. The award is given annually to the nation’s top collegiate punter.
Mortell, a junior, was added to last year’s Ray Guy Award Watch List during the season. He finished the season ranking third in the Big Ten with a punting average of 43.3 yards. His average was also third in Minnesota history. In 2013, Mortell recorded 15 punts of 50 yards or more and landed 21 punts inside the 20-yard line. He was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection.
There are 25 punters on the Ray Guy Award’s preseason list. Mortell is one of three from the Big Ten on the 2014 list. The winner will be announced Dec. 11 on the Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN.
