July 7, 2016

University of Minnesota punter and kicker Ryan Santoso was named to the preseason watch list today for the Lou Groza award. The award is presented annually to the top collegiate placekicker and Santoso was one of ten semifinalists last season as a sophomore.

Santoso, who was Academic All-Big Ten last season, played in 13 games and served as team's primary kicker and kickoff specialist. The Pace, Fla., native drilled 17-of-21 field goal attempts, which included seven field goals over 40 yards. His field goal percentage of .810 was second-highest in Big Ten and he was a perfect 10-for-10 inside 40 yards. Santoso also made all 32 point-after tries and led the team in scoring with 82 points. Santoso also tallied 58 kickoffs and had 27 touchbacks as he was named All-Big Ten Third Team.

For his career, Santoso has made 29-of-39 field goals. His career-long field goal of 52 yards came against Purdue on Oct. 18, 2014, with 4:59 left in the game and lifted Minnesota to a 39-38 home win. He has converted 76-of-77 point-after attempts and has scored 163 points (29 FGs and 76 PATs). Santoso has kicked off 128 times and recorded 64 touchbacks.
