Pick-Your-Packs On Sale // Watch The Gophers On The Road
Minnesota starts the college football season on Sept. 1 against Oregon State at TCF Bank Stadium. The game will mark the beginning of the eighth season at TCF Bank Stadium.
The Gophers are 26-23 in their new stadium and last season they posted some impressive feats in TCF Bank Stadium that cracked the record books.
Shannon Brooks rushed for 174 yards against Illinois, which was the fourth-best rushing performance for a Gopher in TCF Bank Stadium (David Cobb, 220 yards against Middle Tennessee in 2014). Brooks' 174 yards were also the second-most in a Big Ten game for Minnesota (Cobb, 194 against Purdue in 2014).
Brooks averaged 10.2 yards per carry against Illinois, which ranks second at TCF Bank Stadium (Cobb, 11.5 against UNLV in 2013). Brooks also rushed for three touchdowns against Illinois, which is tied for second for a Gopher (Mitch Leidner, 4 against San Jose State in 2013). Brooks' 18 points are tied for second most ever at the stadium as well (Leidner, 24 against San Jose State in 2013).
Rodney Smith's 30 carries against Kent State ranked tied for fourth all-time by a Gopher in TCF Bank Stadium (Cobb, 35 against Purdue in 2014).
Leidner now ranks third and fourth in the stadium record book for passing yards for a Gopher, as he passed for 317 yards against Michigan and 301 yards against Nebraska (Adam Weber, 416 against Michigan State in 2009).
Leidner attempted 40, 37 and 35 passes against Nebraska, Wisconsin and TCU, respectively. Those numbers rank third, fourth and fifth for a Gopher at TCF Bank Stadium (Weber, 49 against Penn State in 2010).
Leidner's 26 completions against Nebraska place him second in the TCF Bank Stadium records (Weber, 31 against Northern Illinois in 2010). Leidner also completed 22 passes against Ohio which is the fourth-most for a Gopher quarterback.
KJ Maye caught 11 passes against Nebraska last season, which is the most catches any Gopher has made in one game at TCF Bank Stadium.
Ryan Santoso converted four field goals against Michigan to make him the only Gopher to make four field goals in a game at TCF Bank Stadium. Santoso also owns the third and fifth longest field goals in the stadium's history, as he connected from 49 yards against Ohio and 47 yards against Michigan last season (Santoso's 52-yard field goal against Purdue in 2014 tops the list for the Gophers).
Peter Mortell punted seven times last season against TCU and Kent State, which is tied for second (Blake Haudan, 8 against South Dakota State in 2009). Mortell's 66-yard punt against Nebraska is the second-longest boot for a Gopher at the stadium (Dan Orseske, 68 against Iowa in 2011).
As a team, Minnesota produced two of its top-five games in regard to most yards gained last season. The Gophers 468 yards against Ohio rank third, while their 461 yards against Michigan is tied for fifth (Minnesota gained 505 yards against Michigan State in 2009).
On defense, Minnesota turned in a stout performance against Kent State last season. The Gophers forced Kent State to punt 10 times, which is the most all-time for an opponent at TCF Bank Stadium. Minnesota held Kent State to 142 total yards (fewest all-time) and 63 yards passing (fewest all-time). Kent State completed just 10 passes, which is the tied for the second fewest for an opponent at TCF Bank Stadium (Wisconsin, 9 in 2015).
Kent State's completion percentage was .357, which is the lowest in stadium history for an opponent. The Golden Flashes gained just eight first downs, which is also the fewest ever gained by an opponent. Minnesota's defense did not allow a Kent State score. The Golden Flashes lone touchdown came on a fumble return, making Kent State one of eight teams to score only one touchdown in a game against Minnesota in TCF Bank Stadium.
