Gophers Named To Preseason All-B1G Teams

The Minnesota Golden Gophers begin the college football season on Aug. 28 at home against Eastern Illinois. With the season right around the corner, publications are now releasing their preseason All-Big Ten teams.

The following seven Gophers were recognized by Athlon: Zac Epping (second team), Maxx Williams (third team), Theiren Cockran (third team), David Cobb (fourth team), Eric Murray (fourth team), Cedric Thompson (fourth team) and Peter Mortell (fourth team).

Phil Steele's College Football preview also honors seven Gophers. The following offensive players were placed on a preseason All-Big Ten team: Zac Epping (second team), David Cobb (third team), Maxx Williams (third team) and Josh Campion (fourth team). Theiren Cockran led the defense with second-team recognition, while Eric Murray was placed on the fourth team. Specialist Marcus Jones was named third-team kick returner.

Gophers Headed To Holiday Bowl

Minnesota will play Washington State in the 2016 National Funding Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27, in San Diego, Calif. The 6 p.m. CT game will be played at Qualcomm Stadium and broadcast on ESPN.
