Gopher Football Mini-Plans on Sale Now! | 2018 Gopher Football Schedule
The Big Ten Conference announced today start times for five Minnesota home football games for the 2018 season. The games include the first three non-conference contests of the season, Minnesota's homecoming game against Iowa and a Friday night tilt against Indiana.
Minnesota will start the season at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30 at TCF Bank Stadium against New Mexico State on BTN. The Gophers are 1-1 all-time against the Aggies and posted a 44-21 road win in 2013, which was the most recent meeting between the schools.
The Gophers will play Fresno State at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 on FS1. Minnesota and the Bulldogs have never met on the football field. This is the first of two meetings, as the Gophers will play at Fresno State on Sept. 7, 2019.
Minnesota will complete its non-conference schedule with a 2:30 p.m. game against Miami (Ohio) that will air on BTN. The Gophers are 3-0 all-time against Miami and most recently beat the RedHawks 29-23 in 2011.
The Big Ten also announced that Minnesota and Iowa will play at either 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. on Oct. 6 (television broadcast information will be announced at a later date). The game will be Minnesota's 100th Homecoming game and 14th against border rival Iowa. The Gophers are 59-37-3 all-time in Homecoming games and have won their last four games against Illinois (2017), Rutgers (2016), Ohio (2015) and Purdue (2014). Minnesota is 10-3-0 all-time against Iowa on Homecoming and leads the overall series 62-47-2.
The Gophers will welcome Big Ten foe Indiana to TCF Bank Stadium for the first time ever when the teams play on Friday, Oct. 26. The game is scheduled to kick at 7:00 p.m. on FS1 and will also mark Minnesota's first Friday home game at its on-campus stadium. Indiana will be the last Big Ten team to play at TCF Bank Stadium, which opened in 2009. The Hoosiers are however the last team that Minnesota beat at the Metrodome (16-7 in 2008) before moving to TCF Bank Stadium.
Today's announcement means that only two start times for Minnesota home games are not yet known. Those games are Nov. 10 against Purdue and Nov. 17 versus Northwestern.
