rankESPN's Ivan Maisel has ranked the Gopher football team 23rd in the nation in the latest post-spring football poll released today.

Minnesota is also ranked ninth in the CNNSI post-spring power rankings after an impressive showing by the defense through the spring, the return of the nation's most dominant running game and the poise of sophomore quarterback Bryan Cupito.

The Gophers open the 2004 football season on Sept. 4 at the H.H.H. Metrodome against Toledo. Toledo is ranked 25th in Maisel's post-spring rankings.
