Connor Cosgrove received the Richard "Pinky" McNamara Student-Athlete Achievement Award this evening at the athletic department's Golden Goldys/Scholar Athlete banquet at TCF Bank Stadium. The event marked the seventh year of the Golden Goldys and the 24th year of the Scholar Athlete banquet.
The Richard "Pinky" McNamara Student-Athlete Achievement Award is given to a student-athlete who has inspired all by making an extraordinary effort to succeed despite difficult circumstances, preserving during a time of tremendous adversity and/or overcoming a great challenge.
Cosgrove was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010, which ended his football playing career. Since his diagnosis, he has remained an inspirational member of the team and has devoted time to charitable organizations like St. Baldrick's Foundation, Be The Match and Relay For Life. Cosgrove received the team's Tony Dungy Character and Community Service Award after the 2012 season. He was also honored with the 2013 Courage Award from the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
