Gopher Athletics announced the establishment of the Gary Tinsley Memorial Fund today. The memorial fund has been established in remembrance of Tinsley, a four-year letterwinner at Minnesota as a linebacker who was just weeks away from receiving his bachelor's degree in business and marketing education when he passed away Friday morning.
Managed by Gopher Athletics' Golden Gopher Fund, the memorial fund will provide fans with an opportunity to help off-set Gary's funeral expenses as well as the travel costs for his teammates to attend his funeral in Florida.
Fans interested in donating to the Gary Tinsley Memorial Fund may do so via the Golden Gopher Fund website at goldengopherfund.com. There is also a direct link to the Golden Gopher Fund website on the front page of gophersports.com.
Tinsley completed his athletic eligibility at the end of the 2011 football season. He saw action in 44 games during his Gopher career. Tinsley was No. 2 on the team in total tackles with 87 stops last season. For his Gopher career, he compiled 198 total tackles.
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Tinsley signed with the Gophers out of First Coast High School in 2008. He played seven games as a freshman in 2008. He saw action in each of the Gophers' 13 games in 2009 and started all 12 games in 2010 and 2011.
