progrHead Football Coach Glen Mason fielded questions from local media today regarding his commitment to the University of Minnesota and his intent to remain head coach for the Golden Gopher football program. Mason, who was a candidate for the head coaching position at Ohio State University, shared his thoughts on staying in Minnesota.
"It was a win-win situation for me. On the one hand, there was the opportunity for me to coach at the school that provided me with my beginning and gave me the tools that allowed me to get to where I am today. On the other hand, I remain at Minnesota with some of the most compassionate, understanding people I know; and a football team that will continue to improve."
"I hope I have not burned any bridges. That was not my intent. I love my job. I really am happy at Minnesota. I like the people here, I like the area and I like my players. I like the people I work with. I have a terrific staff and I am still very excited about the direction this program is headed."
Mason recently completed his fourth season as the head coach for the Golden Gophers, leading them to their second consecutive bowl game for the first time since the 1985-86 seasons. He has compiled a record of 22-24 (.478) over his four years, including back to back seasons of .500 or better.
