Shea Thompson was named assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Gopher football program in January 2012.
Thompson came to Minnesota after a four-month internship at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Prior to his internship at the USOTC, he was the Director of Athletic Physical Preparation at Fit2Live in Iowa City, Iowa.
During his time at Fit2Live, Thompson was involved in developing all aspects of training for athletes whose age and skill level ranged from junior high to professional athletes. Thompson also served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois from August 2008 through June 2010.
His previous experience included work as an assistant and intern at the University of Nebraska. Thompson also served as the volleyball strength and conditioning coach at Buena Vista (Iowa) University during his undergraduate career.
A 2007 graduate of Buena Vista University, Thompson also holds a master's degree from Northern Illinois. He played football for Buena Vista and also holds a blue belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
Thompson, who is the older brother of assistant strength coach Kane Thompson, is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA.
Thompson and his wife, Brynja, were married on July 12, 2014.
