Student-athletes from the University of Minnesota honored for performance in classroom

Peter Westerhaus was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis prior to the 2013 season, thus ending his football career. Westerhaus has remained part of the team and can often be found around the football office and at practices. He received the 2014 Courage Award from the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Named Academic All-Big Ten in 2015.

2012 • FRESHMAN SEASON: Did not see any game action.

2011: Redshirted.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduate of Holy Family High School • led team to a 13-1 record and a berth in the 2010 Prep Bowl • team was 9-2 in 2009 • named Minnesota's Mr. Football for 2010 • named Second-Team All-America as a tight end by Rivals.com • earned All-State honors from the Minnesota Vikings and Associated Press • recorded 139 tackles and scored 11 touchdowns, playing both ways as a senior • tallied 121 tackles, blocked three kicks and caught 29 passes for 668 yards and eight scores as a junior • registered 74 tackles, including a pair of sacks, as a sophomore in 2008 • coached by Dave Hopkins.
