Michael Sypniak joined the athletic medicine staff as head athletic trainer prior to the 2017 football season. Sypniak comes to Minnesota from Ohio State where he spent the last 10 years. He worked with football, baseball, field hockey and the tennis teams during his tenure at Ohio State.

Sypniak completed his athletic trainer certification for the National Athletic Trainers' Association in 2003. While a student at Slippery Rock University, he assisted with football, baseball, track and field, women's basketball, field hockey and swimming. Sypniak also completed a one year internship with the sports medicine department at the University of Maryland where he worked extensively with the baseball program.

While pursuing his master's degree at Syracuse University, Sypniak served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the football team in 2004 and '05. Sypniak also spent a year interning for the Buffalo Bills' athletic training staff.

Sypniak was also an advisor for Ohio State's Athletic Training Club and taught a proficiency course for sophomores within the athletic training education program.

Sypniak and his wife, Sarah, have a son, Frazier.
