Keli'ikuewa Kekuewa joined the Minnesota football staff in January 2017 as an offensive graduate assistant. Kekuewa, who goes by "Chief," will help coach the offensive line.
He spent the past three years with the Wake Forest football program. He was a graduate assistant in 2015 and 2016 after serving as a recruiting intern in 2014.
Kekuewa played two seasons at Bowling Green and started 27 games during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. In 2013, he was an All-Mid-American Conference center and was part of an offensive unit that averaged 34 points per game. The Falcon offense also averaged 266.1 passing yards per game and 193.1 rushing yards per game that year as Bowling Green finished the season 10-4 and won a MAC Championship.
Kekuewa began his college career at Arizona Western College and spent two years there. In 2011, he helped lead the Matadors to an 11-1 record and an appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association Football Championship game. He was part of an offensive line that helped Arizona Western finish the year sixth in rushing offense and averaged 50.2 points per game. Kekuewa earned First-Team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference, First-Team All-Western States Football League and First-Team All-National Junior College Athletic Association while he was at Arizona Western.
