Kammy Powell joined the athletic medicine staff as an assistant athletic trainer prior to the 2013 football season. She was promoted to head athletic trainer prior to the 2015 season.
Powell came to Minnesota after serving as a contract athletic trainer for the U.S. Army where she worked with the 795th MP Battalion. While with the Army, she supervised military training events to insure injury prevention and responded to injuries that did occur. She also worked closely with attending physicians and developed and delivered briefings on injury prevention for cadre and IMT soldiers.
Prior to working for the Army, Powell was an associate athletic trainer at Northern Illinois University from June 2008 to April 2011. She was the head football athletic trainer and was also the primary contact for the head football coach. Powell also helped develop NIU's concussion protocol and created aquatic rehabilitation procedures for day-to-day maintenance and pre and post-operative injuries.
Powell also supervised all athletic trainers for gymnastics and planned and organized medical needs for football and gymnastics MAC Championships as well as bowl games which NIU qualified for. Powell was an assistant athletic trainer at NIU from June 2006 to June 2008 and was a graduate assistant athletic trainer from August 2004 to May 2006. Prior to her time at NIU, she was an athletic trainer with Orthopeadic Associates of Grand Rapids in Grand Rapids, Mich., from May 2001 to June 2004.
Powell receiver her undergraduate degree from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 2001 and her master's degree in sport management from NIU in 2006.
