GAME DAY TID-BITS
Minnesota closes out non-conference play when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the two schools' first meeting. It is the second Southland foe for the Gophers this season, following the 12/7 win over New Orleans.
Junior Andre Hollins had a career day against Omaha in the Gophers' last outing. Hollins eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career, doing so in less than three full seasons, and posted his first-ever double-double with 18 points and a game- and career-high 10 rebounds.
Minnesota saw five players score in double figures for the second time this season, including a few career performances. DeAndre Mathieu tallied a career-best 27 points to lead all scorers, while Malik Smith had a season-hgih 19 points to go with Andre Hollins's rebounding performance.
On Dec. 10 against the Jackrabbits, Minnesota saw two players post double-doubles for the first time in more than three years. Austin Hollins had 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Elliott Eliason added 10 points and 12 rebounds. The last time two Gophers had double-doubles in the same game was Nov. 12, 2010 against Wofford (Ralph Sampson III - 20 pts., 13 rbs.; Trevor Mbakwe - 14 pts., 10 rbs.).
Austin Hollins was selected the Big Ten Player of the Week on Mon., Dec. 16 after his performance against SDSU, his first weekly honor and the first of the year for the Gophers. Hollins became the 37th member of Minnesota's 1,000-point club in the game, and now has 1,003 for his career.
Before this year, the Golden Gopher program had not seen a pair of players reach the 1,000-point plateau in the same season since the trio of Randy Carter, Voshon Lenard and Arriel McDonald did so during the 1993-94 season.
