Tubby Smith is 22-16 all-time against Atlantic Coast Conference teams and will be meeting Florida State for just the second time as a head coach.
Tubby Smith is 2-3 as the Gophers' head coach in Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchups with wins over Virginia (2008) and Virginia Tech (2011). The losses came to FSU (2007), Miami (2009) and Virginia (2010).
• The Gophers are 5-8 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge following last season's 58-55 win over Virginia Tech at Williams Arena. Illinois (6-7), Michigan State (6-6), Northwestern (6-7), Ohio State (6-5) and Wisconsin (6-7) all have six wins in the history of the event. Duke holds the best record in the challenge at 11-2. Wake Forest is close behind at 10-2.
• The Big Ten captured the Commissioner Cup for the third consecutive event, including an eight to four win advantage over the ACC last year.
Andre Hollins scored a career-high 41 points against Memphis on Nov. 23 in the Battle 4 Atlantis becoming just the fourth player in Gopher basketball history to finish a game with 40 or more points and the first since Oliver Shannon finished with 42 points against Wisconsin during the 1970-71 season.
• The Seminoles finished the 2011-12 season with a 25-10 overall record and a school record 12-4 mark in ACC play.  The Seminoles defeated an ACC-high six ranked teams including both Duke and North Carolina twice and defeated each of the four Tobacco Road teams in the ACC (Duke, North Carolina, N.C. State and Wake Forest) in the same season for the first time since joining the ACC for the 1991-92 season.

Gophers in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge:
• The Gophers are 5-8 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge following last season's 58-55 win over Virginia Tech at Williams Arena.
Tubby Smith is 2-3 as the Gophers' head coach in Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchups with wins over Virginia (2008) and Virginia Tech (2011). The losses came to FSU (2007), Miami (2009) and Virginia (2010).
• This will be the fourth time that Minnesota and Florida State have played in the history of the challenge. Minnesota has also faced Virginia four times.
Julian Welch led Minnesota in last year's victory over Virginia Tech with 15 points and four assists. It was his first career Gopher start.
Rodney Williams added 14 points and eight rebounds against Virginia Tech in his first game playing the power forward position. It was the first game Minnesota was playing without Trevor Mbakwe, who injured his knee on Nov. 27, 2011.

Andre Hollins Named B1G Player of the Week:
Andre Hollins was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week for the week Nov. 19-25. It is the first weekly honor for Hollins and the first for the Golden Gopher Basketball program since Trevor Mbakwe was named POTW on Nov. 22, 2010.

Hollins, a native of Memphis, Tenn., averaged 20.3 points and 2.3 rebounds for the week, helping the Gophers to a 2-1 record and a fifth place finish at the Battle 4 Atlantis. He scored a career-high 41 points in the win over No. 19/17 Memphis Tigers, becoming just the fourth player in Minnesota history to surpass the 40-point plateau and the first since Oliver Shannon scored 42 against Wisconsin during the 1971 conference season.

Hollins also came up big in the third and final game at the Battle 4 Atlantis. The sophomore guard sank three free throws with 0.4 seconds left on the clock to secure a 66-63 win over the Stanford Cardinal. Hollins combined to go 20-for-22 from the free-throw line throughout the tournament.

In the opening round loss to No. 5 Duke, Hollins finished with a stat line of 12 points, four assists and three rebounds.
