UPDATE: Gophers senior forward capped an excellent tournament for Team USA in the World University Games with a dominant 21-point, 8-rebound performance in the team's 86-83 win over Germany Monday in Shenzhen, China. Mbakwe finishes the Games as one of four Americans to average double figures in points with 11.4. With 75 rebounds overall, (9.4 rpg.), Mbakwe now lists third in the USA Men's all time WUGs record book and fifth in blocked shots with 13 rejections (1.6 bpg).
"It was really fun," said Mbakwe about his experience in China. "I'm going to miss these guys. We were put together at the last minute. We weren't able to play with each other as much as a lot of these other teams, but it's been great. We're like brothers. We're going to keep in contact."
The USA finished with the tournament's best record at 7-1 despite being knocked out of the medal round by Lithuania in the quarterfinals.
