The
University of
Minnesota men’s basketball team’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge tilt versus the
University of Virginia on Dec. 2 will tip at 8:30 p.m. CST, the Big Ten Conference announced recently. The game will be broadcast live by ESPN2.
Minnesota and
Virginia have met a total of five times in each school’s history, with the Cavaliers leading the series 3-1 (the 1993 matchup has since been vacated). The Gophers’ lone victory came during the 1999-2000 season, a 74-62 triumph at Williams Arena.

Tubby Smith is 0-1 all-time against the Cavaliers.
The Gophers hold a 3-6 record in the Challenge, losing to Florida State, 75-61, last season in
Tallahassee. For the fourth consecutive year, the event will feature 11 games (an increase from nine in the six previous years) from 10 different college campuses. The
Michigan State/North Carolina matchup will take place at Ford Field in
Detroit.
