GAME DAY TID-BITS
No. 7 Minnesota continues play in the 2014 Big Ten Tournament, squaring off against No. 2 Wisconsin on Friday evening in Indianapolis.
The Gophers are 1-1 against the Badgers this season, with each team picking up a home victory.
Minnesota and Wisconsin, long-time rivals, have met just once before on a neutral court. The Badgers picked up a 66-52 win on Mar. 12, 2004 in a 2/10 quarterfinal game.
The Gophers finished the season 8-10 in Big Ten action, standing alone in seventh place. They matched their conference standing from a year ago.
This is just the second time the Gophers compete in the tournament as the No. 7 seed. The only other instance came in 2003, when Minnesota lost to Northwestern, 76-64, in Chicago. The Gophers are now 11-8 in BTT games played in Indianapolis.
Minnesota's win over Penn State was its third of the season over the Nittany Lions. The Gophers have gone 3-0 in a season three times prior, against PSU in 2001-02 and 2009-10, and versus Northwestern in 2001-02.
Senior guard Austin Hollins broke Rodney Williams's school record on Thursday when he took the court, marking Hollins's 135th career appearance in the Maroon and Gold.
The Gophers' offensive outburst on Feb. 25 against Iowa marked a number of highs. It was the most points (95) scored in a Big Ten game since a 95-67 win over Penn State on Feb. 3, 1993 (not including vacated games). Minnesota tied a season high with 11 made 3-pointers, and the 61.2 percent team field goal shooting was a season high, and the best since Jan. 22, 2011 (.634 at Michigan - 26-41).
