The Big Ten Conference today announced that the Minnesota-Indiana matchup will take place on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Noon at Williams Arena and will be broadcast live on ESPN. The game was originally slated as “wildcard” status by the conference broadcast partners.
The Gophers tallied their first Big Ten Conference win of the season over then #7 ranked Indiana on Jan. 12 in Bloomington. It was the first time the Golden Gopher program had beat a Top 10 team on the road while unranked since defeating #9 Iowa during the 1981 conference season. It was the first loss of the season for Indiana.
The win on Jan. 12 gave Tubby Smith his sixth victory over a top-10 ranked team in his four-plus seasons at Minnesota. Smith has a total of 31 career victories over top-10 teams. Prior to Smith’s arrival, the Gophers hadn’t defeated a top 10 team since February 9, 2000 when Minnesota beat No. 9 Indiana 77-75.
