Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith
"First, we made the change to put Trevor in the starting lineup. It was a coach's decision not to play Elliott tonight. There's nothing wrong, we just wanted to make sure that he understood some things, basically that's all that that was about.
"We knew Lafayette would come in and do some different things and try to change up their defense to get us off balance, but I thought our guys showed a lot of poise and a lot of discipline to stick to the game plan and get the game side. We did that early on, we missed some easy shots around the basket, which was disappointing. Then we missed some open looks, which I think a lot of that has to do with the rust of having not played in 11 days but our guys did a good job."
On if he feels the team is ready for the Big Ten season...
"Based on tonight we have a lot of things to work on, but we've taken a break for a few days. We've got to get back and get started on Michigan State, they're a good team and they had a good win today. I think we're in good position, but I know we have to play better,. Based on tonight we've got a lot of things to work on but I like the way we rebounded and I like the way we attacked, so if we can continue to do those things we can play with anyone."
Minnesota Guard Joe Coleman
On the Gophers' readiness for the Big Ten opener against Michigan State...
"We're just showing consistency in how we're playing. We're not differentiating how we're playing. I think it just shows consistency within our team, which is good."
On the importance of the Michigan State game...
"Each game is important, so I'd say it's the same as every other game. But it's definitely the first Big Ten game, so you know we're going to want to come out and set the tone early."
Forward Oto Osenieks
On what went well for him tonight...
"For me, I just saw that the starting five kind of started out slow. So I just tried to come off the bench and bring a lot of energy."
On preparing for Big Ten play...
"Right now we're going to have a couple days off. But then once we get back here, we'll get really focused and get ready for Michigan State. We're feeling pretty good about ourselves."
Lafayette Head Coach Fran O'Hanlon
Remarks about the game...
"We were a little bit slow in the first half, and I think we did a better job in the second half of executing plays. It was a ten point game in the second half and I think it should have been a little bit closer than that, but it is what it is. Minnesota is a good basketball team. There's a reason they're 12-1 and 13th in the nation."
On the depth of the Minnesota team...
"We knew that a Big Ten team like Minnesota would have good depth on the roster. You never know about some of the players until during the game when you see them play, but they're Big Ten players so you know that they're going to be strong."
On his hope for getting the upset after seeing Temple beat Syracuse today...
"I was hoping. But Temple is Temple; they're a pretty good team in the Atlantic Ten conference, probably one of the top teams. We're not playing at the same level as Temple, but I do think that Minnesota is every bit as good as Syracuse."
Gophers Edged in OT By No. 17 Wisconsin, 78-76
