Minnesota Head Coach Richard Pitino
“Wasn’t a great performance defensively. We got the win and that’s obviously the most important thing. I was really concerned with a letdown, not physically but mentally. We have to do a better job of scrambling out defensively out of the press. It’s a quick turnaround with one-day prep for Wofford, but you’ve got to address the immediate defensive concerns and we’ll get back at it tomorrow.”
On the team settling for perimeter shots...
“Very much so. A lot of it had to do with them switching a lot of things, and instead of us driving into the paint we were settling for way too many threes. We talked about that and just didn’t do a great job of it. We really wanted to get fouled, but we improved in the 2nd half."
On if the team felt they were losing at halftime...
“I wanted them to feel like they were losing at halftime. I just didn’t like the energy and I didn’t think it was great; I needed them to understand they needed to tighten things up. We've got one more here and then three games in three days so we just have to sure up a lot of things.”
Junior Forward Oto Osenieks
On his offensive mindset...
"Coach Pitino told me that I don't need to worry about my offense. I just need to play as hard as I can and my offense will come. I just need to hustle and play tough."
Senior Guard Austin Hollins
On playing zone defense tonight...
“It depends on the night. We work on both of them equally in practice. We are trying to master both. The zone worked better than man-to-man for us tonight.”
On attacking more in the second half...
“My shot was not falling tonight, and I saw some openings. We got out on the break a lot more in the second half. I was just trying to get to the basket and hope they would foul.”
Junior Guard DeAndre Mathieu
On if the team was settling for three pointers in the second half...
“I do not know how many shots we took in the first half, but it was way too much. We did not attack the paint like we did against Richmond. If the three-point shot is open, we should shoot it. If we are being challenged, we do not want to take those.”
