Williams Arena - Minneapolis, Minn.
Minnesota Head Coach Richard Pitino
“To see Elliott Eliason get 17 rebounds in 28 minutes of play is phenomenal. He’s playing really well. He works extremely hard and plays extremely hard every single day and he’s carrying us right now, so he helped up us a lot. I thought we played with really good energy. They’re a good team and he’s a great coach and it was a good first win."
On Maurice Walker's absence:
“Mo’s a loss. Every guy on the team is going to have to do a little bit to keep up. ...We support Mo. We love Mo, and we can ‘t wait to get him back in Maui.”
On the Gophers' defense:
“Our defense in the first half was phenomenal and they’re a good offensive team. Our guys were really locked in to that. We did a good job of taking them out of what they needed to do.”
“Getting 11 steals is something we pride ourselves on.”
On Joey King:
“He had 20 points and got to the line and took good shots. His biggest thing is rebounding. He only had one rebound in 27 minutes of play, but he’ll get there because he’s willing to work.”
Joey King (So./F)
On how he felt playing with Oto Osenieks in the frontcourt:
“When we go smaller, it’s nice to mix it up and get quick. It’s good for us. It speeds up the other team."
On starting to face tougher and bigger opponents:
“Montana’s a great team. We have Syracuse down the road. We’re going to have to get better every day. Improving our weaknesses, especially rebounding, will make this team better.”
Elliott Eliason (R-Jr./C)
On working on rebounding as the season goes along:
“We always work on everything -- defense, toughness, there’s always room for improvement.”
On Joey King's performance:
“Joey’s an energy guy. He did a great job at the three-point line line. He was big out there. He’s doing some great things. Having him come off the bench for us is huge for us. It’s awesome.
On getting the first win of the season:
“It’s always nice to get that first one right away. We’ve been working so hard. You could start in the hole a little bit, but it’s definitely nice to get things going.”
