Athletic Communication Intern
Jeff Fasching, a sophomore pitcher, tossed eight innings of relief for the Gophers last season. Fasching tossed two innings with a pair of strikeouts twice during the 2015 campaign - once versus St. John's (3/31) and the other in a home matchup with Kansas State (4/29). The second-year southpaw recently caught up with Gopher Sports.
Gopher Sports: What is your favorite baseball movie of all-time?
Jeff Fasching: Hardball. I love Keanu Reeves and I love the fact that the pitcher listens to Notorious BIG while he pitches.
GS: What newcomer are you looking forward to seeing suit up in maroon and gold?
JF: There is a new #28 who has the same body type as the old #28. I think Nick Lackney has some good stuff and a good makeup. Lefties gotta stick together.
GS: Do you have any superstitions?
JF: I used to have a lot in high school. Not as much anymore though. I used to wear a lucky undershirt but I can’t wear it anymore because it’s blue. I still keep it with me in my bag though.
GS: What has been your favorite moment as a Gopher so far?
JF: I would say this fall has been really fun. It’s really nice to see the new team attitude and the team perspective that we have this year. I think we’ve become a lot closer as a team. Plus I’ve gotten a few at bats here and there so that’s all a pitcher can ask for.
GS: What is the best thing about being a collegiate baseball player?
JF: I think the best thing is being around a group of guys who care about and love the game of baseball as much as you do. Everyone here loves the game and always wants to get better, and that’s really fun to be around. Guys push each other.
GS: What is your favorite flavor of sunflower seeds?
JF: Giants Kettle Roasted are quite tasty if I must say so myself.
GS: What MLB team is your favorite?
JF: The Twinkies of course, probably just because I’m from Minnesota. I personally guarantee a World Series appearance within the next 3 years.
