Smith Obituary

The Gopher baseball family lost one of its own as former player Rob Smith, 40, lost his battle against acute leukemia on Sept. 25th.

Visitation 4-8 PM Monday, Oct. 1, at O'Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home (575 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul) 651-698-0796. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Assumption Catholic Church (51 West 7th Street, St. Paul). Smith lettered and played with the Gopher baseball team from 1995-96. Named the team's most improved in 1995, he went on to become a first-team All-Big Ten honoree at third base in 1996. Recruited out of Menomonie, Wis., to play football for Jim Wacker's team, Smith played both football and baseball, and eventually focused solely on baseball.
