Sept. 30, 2012
The University of Minnesota baseball team held its first official practice on the newly constructed Siebert Field, 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012. With the sun shining and an 80 degree day in Minneapolis, the group gathered for their first fall practice of the 2012-13 season.
The Gopher players hadn't been able to get on the field until Saturday. The Gopher coaches opened the practice showing and instructing the team on the logistics of the field and a chance to go and check out infield, mound and turf. After briefly meeting, coach John Anderson gave the season's first quote of the day and the Gophers kicked off the season with base-running drills, working on technique and infield instruction.
With the field complete, the construction is left to the dugouts, concession/pressbox area, the grandstands and restrooms. The complex is scheduled to be complete by the end of the calendar year.
