Aug. 21, 2017

St. Cloud, Minn. - A pair of Gopher Baseball pitchers led the way as the St. Cloud Rox claimed the Northwoods League Championship in a decisive game-three of the Summer Collegiate World Series on Saturday night in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The Rox defeated the Battle Creek Bombers 5-3 to take the series as junior right-hander Jake Stevenson picked up the victory and senior righty Jackson Rose the save.

St. Cloud opened up the scoring in the fifth inning, opening up the scoring on an error on the Battle Creek infield and eventually charging to a 4-0 lead. Stevenson worked 5.2 innings, allowing just two earned runs on eight hits, striking out one in his lone postseason appearance. Rose entered with a man on and a 5-3 lead with two outs in the eighth, striking out three in 1.1 innings of  hitless work to pick up the save. In the postseason, he worked 4.0 innings, striking out six while allowing just two hits.
St. Cloud took game one of the series 7-5, while the Bombers took game two 3-2 in extra innings to force Saturday's final game. Stevenson was named the League's Pitcher of the Night for his performance in game three.
The duo makes three current student athletes from the University of Minnesota who have won titles in the Northwoods League as senior Micah Coffey helped lead the Kenosha Kingfish to an NWL CSWS championship in 2015.
