The Northwoods League held its annual all-star game on Tuesday, July 24th that also featured a few Golden Gopher baseball connections.

Alex Tukey picked up the win when he pitched 0.2 innings, helping the South to a 4-3 victory. On the season, Tukey has pitched in 19 games and 24.2 innings for a 2.55 ERA. He also leads the Battle Creek Bombers with 37 strikeouts and four saves.

Andy Henkemeyer was in the starting all-star lineup for the North and went 1-2 with a run scored in his two at bats. Henkemeyer, who played in last year's NWL all-star game, also had one of the two stolen bases. Playing for the St. Cloud Rox, Henkemeyer holds a .333 batting average in 177 at bats and 73 total bases. He currently leads the team in RBI (36) and hits (59) and home runs (3) and second in runs scored (29) and triples (3) and third in doubles (8).

Around the league: Gopher baseball has 11 individuals playing within the NWL. Tony Skjefte is also playing with the St. Cloud Rox as is Billy Soule and Ben Meyer. Skjefte is batting .230 in and has seen action in 36 games. Right before the all-star break, Skjefte had a walkoff walk to lead the Rox to a 7-6 win. Soule has made 11 appearances and started in seven games for a 3.91 ERA. Pitching the most innings for the Rox, Soule has 53.0 innings of work, allowed 23 earned runs and struck out 28. Meyer has made eight appearances and three starts for 25.0 innings. In that span, he has struck out 15 batters and is 2-2 on the season.

DJ Snelten has started and appeared in seven games for the Rochester Honkers and is 0-2 on the season. In 30.2 innings of work, Snelten has struck out a team-high 37 batters and holds a 3.52 ERA. Also joining the Honkers pitching staff is Ty McDevitt, who is currently 2-0 on the season in eight appearances. Pitching 16.2 inning, he has struck out 17, walked 11 and holds a 3.78 ERA. Matt Halloran has played 25 games this summer and has had 87 at bats and 14 hits for four RBI.

In Wisconsin, Bobby Juan is playing for the LaCrosse Loggers. In 43 games played, the town native is hitting .273 in 139 at bats. Ranking third on the team in RBI (24), Juan is tied for a team-high six home runs. Jordan Jess is playing with the Wisconsin Woodchucks and has made 10 appearances and two starts. Pitching 29.2 innings, Jess has struck out 22 batters and allowed 27 earned runs. Drew Ghelfi is playing for the Eau Claire Express and has appeared in 10 games, making two starts. Pitching in 28.0 innings, Ghelfi is has struck out 23, walked 17 and allowed 17 earned runs.
