Gophers Sign Two More Student-Athletes
July 19, 2016

Two more student-athletes have joined the University of Minnesota Gophers to round out the incoming class, head coach John Anderson announced Tuesday.

Brett Schulze has signed a National Letter of Intent and Jackson Rose transferred from Barton Community College. Both newcomers will be on campus in the fall of 2016.

Brett Schulze (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove High School) - RHP | 6-1 | B/T: R/R

Schulze was a three-time letter winner at Maple Grove High School where he was named all-state in 2016. He was also a three-time All-Northwest Suburban Conference honoree, named all-area all four years and he was named all-city in 2016. Schulze had a 12-6 record over the last two seasons along with a 1.91 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 2016. He struck out ten batters in a section playoff game and struck out another eight batters in a complete game win during the state tournament.

Assistant head coach Rob Fornasiere: "Schulze came into the recruiting process late. He made a significant jump, that's why we choose to recruit him. He has a good quick arm, a good fast ball, good complimentary pitches, throws strikes and competes well. He's a talented kid. Like a lot of Minnesota kids, his best season of baseball is his senior season."

Jackson Rose (Omaha, Neb. / Barton Community College) - RHP | 6-3 | B/T: R/R

Rose made three starts in 19 appearances for Barton Community College in 2016. He finished with a 6-3 record and recorded 39 strikeouts in 41 innings. Rose had a .938 fielding percentage and had a season-high nine strikeouts versus MCC-Longview on March 22. Rose graduated from Omaha Westside High School in 2014.

Anderson: "We saw Rose pitch in the Northwoods League and felt like he had a power arm that we could use in the bullpen. He has a good fastball, fastball command, a good changeup and he's developing a breaking ball. He has pitched both in the bullpen and started in junior college as well as in the Northwoods League. His numbers are better out of the bullpen so now we're looking at him to develop better secondary stuff to be a starter."
