NCBWA: 2018 NCBWA All-America Teams (June 13, 2018)
Perfect Game: 2018 College All-Americans (June 13, 2018)
Three more organizations announced their All-America selections for the 2018 season - D1Baseball.com, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and Perfect Game - and each named Gopher Baseball's Terrin Vavra an All-American shortstop. Patrick Fredrickson and Max Meyer also earned Third Team All-America honors from D1Baseball.com after each receiving the same honor from Collegiate Baseball earlier this season.
Vavra earned First Team All-America picks from D1Baseball and NCBWA and a Second Team selection from Perfect Game. He also earned First Team All-America honors from Baseball America this year. He batted third in 58 games for the high-powered Gophers line-up this season, ranking 20th in the country with a team-leading .386 batting average. The First Team All-Big Ten selection drove in 59 runs and crossed the plate 55 times. Vavra ranked in the top 50 in the country with his 86 hits, and in the top 100 with a .455 on-base percentage and .614 slugging percentage. He ranked among the toughest players to strike out in the country at 10.1 plate appearances per punch out. He also led the Gophers with 10 home runs and four triples while drawing 30 walks compared to just 22 strikeouts. The Menomonie, Wisconsin native was selected in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft by Colorado.
Fredrickson has also earned Freshman All-America honors from both Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA - including being named both organization's Freshman Pitcher of the Year. The right-hander posted a 9-0 record in 19 appearances including 15 starts for the Maroon & Gold. The native of Gig Harbor, Washington finished with a 1.86 ERA in 97.0 innings, striking out 73 batters compared to just 27 walks. Opponents hit just .209 against the Big Ten's Pitcher and Freshman of the Year. His ERA ranked 12th in the nation while his 1.01 WHIP and 6.59 hits per nine innings were each among the top 50 in the nation.
Meyer earlier this season earned Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Reliever of the Year award and Freshman All-America honors from both Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA. The First Team All-Big Ten reliever made 23 appearances out of the Minnesota bullpen during his rookie campaign, tying the program record of 16 saves originally set by Brian Glowicki during the 2017 season. The native of Woodbury, Minnesota struck out 54 batters in 43.2 innings, posting a 2-3 record with a 2.06 ERA. Opposing batters hit just .163 against him, and he allowed less than one baserunner per inning with a 0.94 WHIP. Meyer's 16 saves rank third in the nation this season.
