Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota will host Purdue for a three-game series, beginning Thursday, to finish off the regular season.
The Gophers are 32-17 overall and 14-6 in the Big Ten after sweeping a doubleheader versus Rutgers Tuesday.
The Maroon and Gold have a .297 team batting average that is lead by Micah Coffey who has a .353 average. Coffey's average is second highest in the conference. Jordan Kozicky is second on the team with a .349 batting average and has reached base in 32 consecutive games. Toby Hanson leads the team with 63 hits and 50 RBIs which is third most in the Big Ten. Jordan Smith leads the squad with six home runs while both Alex Boxwell and Terrin Vavra have stolen seven bases.
Lucas Gilbreath leads all starting pitchers with a 2.45 ERA and 80 strikeouts. The lefty is 5-1 in 12 appearances this season and his ERA ranks fourth lowest in the conference while his strikeouts are fourth most. Bret Schulze is second on the team with 51 strikeouts. Brian Glowicki leads the bullpen with 15 saves, second most in the NCAA. He is 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 31 strikeouts. Tim Shannon has made 27 appearances this season where he has posted a 2-0 record with a 3.00 ERA and 28 strikeouts.
The Boilermakers are 27-24 overall and 10-11 in the conference this season after being swept by No. 16 Michigan this past weekend. They defeated Fort Wayne 9-7 Tuesday.
Purdue has a .260 team batting average that is led by Skyler Hunter's .328 batting average. Jacson McGowan leads the team with seven home runs and 47 RBIs. Harry Shipley leads the team with 21 stolen bases.
Gareth Stroh leads all starting pitchers with a 4.15 ERA and is 4-4 this season. Tanner Andrews leads with 56 strikeouts while having a 7-4 record with a 4.40 ERA. Dalton Parker leads the team with six saves in 14 appearances.
Minnesota leads the all-time series 118-52-2. The two squads last played in 2016 where the Gophers swept the series in West Lafayette.
The Gophers will make a run at the Big Ten regular season championship this weekend. The most efficient way fro the Maroon and Gold to win the conference is to sweep Purdue.
