Junior left-handed pitcher DJ Snelten was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, announced today by the conference office. It's weekly career honor for Snelten and Minnesota's fifth Pitcher of the Week accolade this year.
Snelten earned his second win of the season when he threw an 86-pitch complete game one-hitter. Going the full nine innings, Snelten and the Gophers finished the game in an hour 37 minutes. In that span, Snelten allowed just one infield hit, struck out a career-high seven batters and walked just one for Minnesota's sixth complete game of the year. It marked the second complete game of his career, with the first coming during his sophomore campaign. Along with his pitching prowess, Snelten also fielded his position when he assisted on six 1-3 putouts.
The Gophers are scheduled to play Winona State on Tuesday, April 9, 3:05 p.m. at Siebert Field. Following the midweek game, Minnesota will continue Big Ten action when it travels to Northwestern, April 12-14.
