ALL-TIME SERIES AND LAST MEETING
Minnesota and Hamline played for four hours and 35 minutes as the Golden Gophers defeated the Pipers, 3-2 in the bottom of the 16th inning, March 7, 2012 at the Dome. Minnesota's Jake Bergren scored on a sacrifice fly to end the game. Minnesota was led by Matt Halloran, who went 3-8 with an RBI and a double. Matt Puhl and Dan Olinger went 2-8, while Troy Larson was 2-4 and three walks.
ABOUT THE PIPERS
Hamline enters the Minnesota game with a 3-2 record. Starting out the season with wins against Northwestern (MN) and two against Bethany Lutheran, the Pipers dropped a doubleheader to UW-Stout Monday. Zach Brautigam is scheduled to pitcher for Hamline, making his 2013 debut. In 2012, he held a 6.23 ERA, pitched 4.1 innings and struck out three. Offensively, Hamline is led by Jordan Buck, who in 15 at bats and five starts, has batted .467, has six RBI and seven hits. Dan Moro has also started in five games, is batting .462, scored a team-high five runs and knocked in two.
O'SHEA ON THE MOUND
Kyle O'Shea is scheduled to make his third start in three weeks against Hamline. Against Western Michigan earlier this year, O'Shea collected his first collegiate win when he went 5.0 innings, allowed one run and walked one. Against North Dakota State, O'Shea started the game and pitched 3.0 innings of scoreless work. He struck out two and walked two. In three appearances in 2013, O'Shea holds a 2.89 ERA.
DAIRY QUEEN CLASSIC RECAP
Minnesota went 1-2 in the DQ Classic last weekend as it fell to Dartmouth, 10-3, defeated Utah, 4-1, and lost to Northern Illinois, 2-1, in the Sunday finale. Dartmouth won the tournament going 3-0, while all other three went 1-2. Ben Meyer, Kurt Schlangen and JT Canakes were all named to the all-tournament team. Dartmouth's Nick Lombardi was named the tournament's Most Outstanding and Silver Stick as he went 6-12 with five RBI and three runs scored.
ON THE DOCKET
Minnesota continues home action this weekend as it hosts Western Illinois, March 8-10. Friday's game is set for 6:35 p.m., followed by Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m., all played at the H.H.H. Metrodome.
