The University of Minnesota will host its first midweek game of the season when North Dakota State comes to town, Wednesday, Feb. 27th at 6:35 p.m. at the H.H.H. Metrodome. Minnesota played the Bison three times last season, going 1-2, also in midweek action.

On April 25th, Minnesota traveled to Fargo, N.D. and defeated the Bison, 11-7. Trailing 6-2 at one time, Minnesota put up seven runs in the eighth inning for the comeback win. Minnesota had nine players earn a RBI in the win. JT Canakes went 3-5 on the night and had two RBI and a run scored. Andy Henkemeyer, Matt Halloran, Dan Olinger and Bobby Juan all had two hits in the game. Minnesota used four pitchers in the game, with Tom Windle picking up the win. He went 2.0 innings pitched, allowed two hits, held NDSU scoreless and struck out two. Also seeing action was Jordan Jess (2.2 innings, three earned runs), Dustin Klabunde (2.1, 1 earned run) and Drew Ghelfi (2.0, one earned run).

At the Dome, however, NDSU took home two wins in 2012 in 7-0 and 6-5 wins, March 20-21. The Bison threw ace John Straka in the first game and the shutout. In nine innings, Straka allowed just six hits and eight strikeouts. In the second game, NDSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Minnesota however, responded back with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Bison countered with four of their own for a 6-5 final.

North Dakota State opened the season and went 1-2 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Feb. 15-17. Last weekend the Bison took two of three when they defeated Southeast Missouri State last weekend. The Bison will play Minnesota before a three-game series against Tennessee-Martin, March 1-3. Blake Turbak leads the Bison offense with a .364 batting average, eight hits, two doubles, one triple and one home run. Tim Colwell leads the RBI category (5) and nine hits, while Michael Leach has a team-best five runs scored. Parker Trewin is making his first start of the season and fourth appearance of the year. In 4.2 innings pitched this year, Trewin holds a 1.93 earned run average, allowed one run and four strikeouts.

Gopher starter Kyle O'Shea picked up his first collegiate win last Saturday in the second game of the doubleheader. Pitching 5.0 innings, O'Shea allowed just four hits, one earned run and one walk for the win. On a pitch count against NDSU, O'Shea will be making his second start of the season.

Minnesota hosts the 29th-annual Dairy Queen Classic, March 1-3 at the Metrodome. Along with the host Gophers, Minnesota will play Dartmouth, Northern Illinois and Utah. It's the first time these three opponents have played in the DQ Classic.
