Sacramento, Cal. – The University of Minnesota won the rubber game of the three-game series versus Sacramento State by a score of 5-2 Saturday.
The Gophers got their first run in the top of the second inning when Toby Hanson hit a solo-home run to right field.
Two more runs were tacked on in the third inning. Alex Boxwell singled to center field then stole his third base of the series. Terrin Vavra tripled down the right field line to score Boxwell. Two batters later Vavra scored on a Matt Stemper single up the middle.
Jordan Kozicky walked to lead off the fourth inning and then advanced to second when Eli Wilson bunted for a hit. Kozicky advanced to third base on an Eduardo Estrada, Jr. double play then scored on a single off of the bat of Luke Pettersen.
Jordan Smith led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to cap off the scoring for the Gophers. It was the senior’s third home run of the season.
Toby Anderson started on the mound for the Gophers and threw 7.1 innings. He scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs while striking out three batters. The senior picked up his second win of the season.
Nick Lackney came in for Anderson and faced one batter which he walked. Brian Glowicki threw the final 1.2 innings where he did not allow a hit and struck out one batter. This was Glowicki’s sixth save of the season.
