Four Gophers compete in final NWL series
2016 • SOPHOMORE SEASON:
Started at the hot corner for all four games to open the season in Surprise, Ariz. (2/19-2/21) and picked up a hit in each game, with an RBI coming in three of the contests • notched a season high with two hits at Campbell (2/26) • launched his first career home run in the series finale at Campbell (2/28) • hit 5-for-10 with two runs, three RBI, a double and a homer in series at Georgia State (3/4-3/6) • tallied a hit and totaled four RBI with one double and a triple in all four contests at Seattle U (3/11-3/16) • drilled three hits and capped a 10-game hitting streak at Utah Valley (3/18-3/20) • went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI double against Augsburg (3/22) • set a season-high with three RBI on the back end of the doubleheader sweep at No. 23 Missouri State (3/26) • went 2-for-3 with an RBI against Saint Mary's (3/30) • notched an RBI single against Iowa (4/1) • set a career-best mark by drawing four walks versus Northern Illinois (4/6) tied a season-high and led the club with three hits in opening series win at No. 25 Michigan (4/8) • laced a single and scored a run against South Dakota State (4/12) • scored two runs and drilled a single versus Maryland (4/17) • netted three hits, including an RBI triple, at Northwestern (4/22-4/24) • went 2-for-4 and scored a run at North Dakota State (4/26) • collected three hits, including a homer, scored twice and added four RBI in the series-clinching win at Illinois (5/1) • laced six hits, including one double and a roundtripper, and scored four times in non-conference sweep of Kansas (5/3-5/4) • hit two home runs and totaled three RBI, while score three times against Indiana (5/6-5/8) • netted three runs, a double and one homer at Purdue (5/13-5/14).
Split the season playing for the Kenosha Kingfish in the Northwoods League and the Joliet Admirals in the Midwest Collegiate League • won the NWL crown with the Kingfish • hit .308 and slugged at a .414 clip in 42 games • finished fifth on team in average over final 10 games, including postseason • totaled 52 hits, including nine doubles, three triples and a homer to go along with 23 RBI • touted a six-game hitting streak to begin the season with four being multi-hit contests.
2015 • FRESHMAN SEASON:
Played in 32 games at third base and as designated hitter • batted .243 with nine runs and 10 RBIs • drew seven walks. Game Highlights: Debuted at Florida Gulf Coast (2/28) • registered his first collegiate hit, RBI and run scored going 1-for-3 at Richmond (3/17) • hit 2-for-3 with an RBI at Richmond (3/18) • hit 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs against Northwestern (3/29) • hit 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two walks, a run and a stolen base against North Dakota State (4/14) • went 2-for-4 with a run against Michigan State (5/15).
Graduated from Batavia High School in 2014 • played for coach Matt Holm • 2013 and 2014 Kane County Chronicle Male Athlete of the Year • two-time all-area and three-time All-Upstate Eight Conference selection • hit .368 with 10 doubles, a home run, 35 RBIs and 13 stolen bases to lead his team to a 33-4-1 record as a senior • as a junior, hit .395 with 12 doubles, three triples and three homeruns and led Batavia to a 27-6 season • started games at seven different positions • hit .350 over the summer • two-time all-conference and all-area honoree in football • all-state honorable mention after quarterbacking the Bulldogs to the 2013 Class 6A state championship, throwing 29 touchdown passes on the season • NFF Scholar-Athlete Award recipient • three-year starter, two year team scoring leader and 2013 first team all-conference selection in basketball • two-time football academic all-state selection • National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society member • academic all-conference and Illinois State Scholar.
