Patterson, a native of New Ulm, Minnesota begins his second year at the University of Minnesota primarily working with the women’s basketball team.
Prior to arriving at the University of Minnesota he completed his undergraduate degree in 2005 at South Dakota State University receiving a Bachelors’ of Science degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Health Sciences.
From there, he went on to obtain a Masters’ of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science-Human Performance with specialization in Athletic Training in 2007 from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. During his time at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the primary responsibility of caring for the men’s basketball team and providing assistant athletic training support to the football team. He also served as an approved clinical instructor for the accredited athletic training education program, one of the most competitive, in-depth and hands-on athletic training programs in the country.
After graduate school, Patterson went on to accept a position as an Associate Athletic Trainer at Saint Cloud State University. He held this position from 2007 to 2011 and provided direct athletic training services to the women’s basketball team, men’s and women’s golf teams, and baseball team. He also served as an approved clinical instructor to the accredited athletic training education program.
In 2011, after his tenure at Saint Cloud State University, Patterson moved into a clinical setting working as an Athletic Trainer/Physician Extender for Sports and Orthopaedic Specialists in Edina, Minnesota until the summer of 2015.
He is a credentialed M1 Graston Technique ® provider and has been certified in active release techniques (ART ®) for the lower extremity. He has been published in several peer-reviewed journals.
