Kelly Clay joined the University of Minnesota staff in July of 2017. She is the strength and conditioning coach for the women's track and field and cross country and women's gymnastics teams.

Previous to UM, she was the assistant sports performance specialist at the University of Kansas, where she worked with the women's rowing team, and assisted with men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball, softball, women's tennis, and swim and dive. Prior to KU, she was the head strength and conditioning coach and assistant track and field and cross country coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

She has her master's from A.T. Still University, and earned her BS from the University of WI Eau Claire, where she compete in track and field for 3 years. She has her USA-Weightlifting coaching certification, and her certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS-NSCA)
