With his arrival at the University of Minnesota in the summer of 2017, Joe Hansen celebrates 10 years of experience in the field of athletic communications, previously serving as a student assistant, an intern, and a full-time director at universities in and around his hometown of Duluth, Minnesota.
Hansen spent his undergrad years working in the sports information office at his alma mater, the College of St. Scholastica, before graduating in 2011 and then served as a volunteer assistant before landing a paid position back in the field at the University of Minnesota Duluth. As a three-year intern for the Bulldogs, Hansen covered NCAA tournament appearances by the nationally-ranked UMD baseball, soccer, and volleyball teams as well as the rising men’s and women’s basketball teams. He then spent one season covering 19 sports as the Sports Information Manager for the University of Wisconsin Superior before landing with the Gophers. Hansen also spent two seasons as the official scorer for the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League.
