Fred began his time at the University of Minnesota in July 2016, he is currently in his second year as a graduate assistant with the Men's and Women's Track and Field/Cross Country program and is pursuing a Master of Education degree from the University of Minnesota in Sport and Exercise Science, expecting to complete this program in the Spring of 2017.

A life long resident from Lino Lakes, Minnesota, he graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in May 2016. Fred gained experience during his time at Kansas working with Sporting KC, the professional MLS team, in 2015-2016.

Zappa holds certifications in Graston Technique M1, Active Release Technique (ART) lower extremity and has been a member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) since 2013.
