David Benedict came to Minnesota in July 2012, after serving as the executive associate athletic director at Virginia Commonwealth University, overseeing numerous aspects of the athletic department, including student-athlete welfare and sport supervision.
David's resume includes a long history of successful fundraising campaigns, having served as head of VCU Athletics' development operations and previously as lead developer for businesses and universities in Arizona and California.
Before joining the staff at VCU in 2010, David worked as an associate athletic director of development at Arizona State University and as the executive director of ASU's fund raising arm, the Sun Angel Foundation. He also served as senior associate athletic director for external relations at Long Beach State University and worked in the private sector as senior vice president for the Scottsdale Health Care Foundation.
A former student-athlete who played football at Southern Utah University, David graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He also holds a master's degree in sports management from New Mexico Highlands University.
