Andrea Smith is an Associate Director of Compliance at the University of Minnesota. She was promotedto Associate Director in June 2013 after being an Assistant Director for over three and a half years. Andrea works in all areas of compliance and is the direct contact for the Baseball, Football, Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving, Softball, and Women's Volleyball programs.
Prior to working at the University of Minnesota, Andrea was the Assistant Director of Compliance atUniversity of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. At Pacific, Andrea worked in all areas of compliance for all sport programs. Before transitioning into college athletics, Andrea was an associate attorney at the law firm of Erstad & Riemer, P.A. where she represented employers and insurers in workers' compensation claims.
In addition to her full-time work, Andrea has served as an adjunct instructor, teaching courses in SportLaw and NCAA Compliance. She earned her J.D. from the University of St. Thomas in 2007. Prior to law school, Andrea attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a B.S. in Sport Studies-Sport Management in 2003 and then went on to earn her M.Ed. in Sport Studies-Sport Management in 2004. While attending the University of Minnesota, Andrea was member of the softball team from 2002-2004.
Before enrolling at the University of Minnesota, Andrea attended the University of Rhode Island from 1999-2001 where she also participated on the softball team.
