WHAT TEAM YOU WERE ON WITHIN THE SPIRIT SQUAD:
WHAT YEARS DID YOU CHEER/DANCE:
SHARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOITE SPIRIT SQUAD MEMORIES:
One of my fondest memories came from my Junior year when our bid tape was misplaced and we had to pull together as a team and shoot a completely new bid tape in one day, and we still won our region!!
Another memory was from my Freshman year when we decided to skip UCA College Camp to hold our own camp in Wisconsin Dells, and the team bonded instantly. That was the moment I knew I made the correct choice in coming to the U and that I could always look at the squad as my family!
WHAT HAS YOUR INVOLVEMENT WITH THE SPIRIT SQUAD DONE FOR YOU IN YOUR POST-COLLEGE LIFE:
I learned valuable tools for post-graduation by understanding the challenges laid before me and how to prioritize my time in order to produce efficient results. The spirit squad also taught me to be confident in my interactions with large groups and how to be a team player.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO CHEER/DANCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA WHEN YOU WERE IN COLLEGE:
The experience of cheering at a Gopher football game in front of 60,000 people and competing against the best college cheer teams in the country each year was incentive enough to continue my tenure with the Spirit Squad.
APPROXIMATELY HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE ON THE TEAM WHEN YOU WERE:
We had about 20 people each year, it was great to have so many options and people to push one another to be the best we could be.
HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE SPIRIT SQUAD AS AN ALUMNI (IF YES, IN WHAT ASPECT):
Yes, I interned at the Spirit Squad office last semester to gain a better understanding of how the marketing program works within the University. I have also served as emcee for multiple cheerleading competitions and parent days at the Dome.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE GOPHER SPIRIT SQUAD THAT YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH ME?
Without the spirit squad in my life, I don’t know where I would be. The lessons I learned from this program have molded me into the individual I am now, and I owe it all to the excellent coaching staff at the U!
WHAT ARE YOU UP TO NOW?
I still live in Minneapolis, I currently am a head coach for Planet Spirit All Stars, and a two-time recipient of the Lake Conference Coaching award.
