MINNEAPOLIS -- Eight Golden Gophers are among those honored on the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, the organization announced Thursday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletics and in the classroom.

The eight Gopher honorees represent six University of Minnesota sports with men's gymnastics and women's hockey each having two representatives: Sydney Baldwin (women's hockey), Sabrine Garrison (women's golf), Justin Karstadt (men's gymnastics), Ethan Lizak (wrestling), Kortney Luedloff (rowing), Sidney Peters (women's hockey), Yaroslav Pochinka (men's gymnastics), and Matic Spec (men's tennis).

As first-team Academic All-District honorees, all eight Gophers advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America teams announced in June.

Sydney Baldwin, Senior, Women's Hockey

Baldwin, a native of Minnetonka, Minn., had an outstanding senior season, during which she was named a CCM/AHCA First Team All-American, WCHA Player off the Year, and WCHA Defensive Player of the Year. Baldwin also earned All-WCHA First Team honors and a Patty Kazmaier top-10 finalist nod and led the Gophers to the 2018 WCHA Final Faceoff title and the program's 11th-straight NCAA tournament berth. She had at least one point in 23 of 38 games, including seven multi-point games with two multi-goal games. Along with earning her first Google Cloud Academic All-District award, she is a three-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete and WCHA All-Academic honoree. Baldwin graduated with degrees in Health Services Management and Human Resources Development this spring.

Sabrine Garrison, Senior, Women's Golf

Garrison, a native of Calgary, Alberta, led the team in scoring average (75.19) and finished her career one-hundredth from the school record for career scoring average (75.52). Her season scoring average ranks 10th in program history, and she recorded one top-10 finish this season, placing seventh at the Big Ten Championships (-3). Garrison was in the lineup for every tournament but one, which she missed due to a medical school interview. She earned her degree in Physiology this spring.

Justin Karstadt, Junior, Men's Gymnastics

A Toronto, Ontario native, Karstadt earned All-American honors on both parallel bars and pommel horse at the 2018 NCAA Championships. The Kinesiology major also earned Academic All-District honors last year and went on to receive Academic All-America honors a year ago as well.

Ethan Lizak, Redshirt Junior, Wrestling

Lizak, a Schnecksville, Pa. native, is majoring in Kinesiology and has been just as outstanding in the classroom as he has been on the mat. He is a two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic recipient and has been a part of the Academic All-Big Ten team each of the last two years. Lizak became the 53rd multiple All-American for the Gopher Wrestling program in March, and he was the Big Ten runner-up at 125-pounds. He won 30 matches for the second straight season in 2018, and he enters his final year of eligibility with 88 career wins, which is 52nd all-time at Minnesota.

Kortney Luedloff, Senior, Rowing

Luedloff has performed on the first Varsity 8 team for the past three seasons, and this year she earned First Team All-Big Ten honors for the first time in her career. She is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and served as one of two team captains for the Gophers this season. Luedloff is a Management Information Systems major with a 3.82 GPA.

Sidney Peters, Redshirt Senior, Women's Hockey

A native of Geneva, Ill., Peters wrapped up her Gophers career by recording a .922 save percentage and a 1.93 goals against average while playing in 28 games for the Maroon & Gold this season. She was named the WCHA Final Faceoff Most Outstanding Player after leading Minnesota to the 2018 WCHA postseason title. Along with her success on the ice, Peters was named the 2018 Hockey Humanitarian Award recipient. She is a four-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete and WCHA All-Academic honoree and has earned her first Google Cloud Academic All-District award of her career. Peters graduated with a degree in Kinesiology and plans to attend medical school at the Uniformed Services University where she will serve in the Air Force.

Yaroslav Pochinka, Senior, Men's Gymnastics

Pochinka earned All-American honors on vault this season. He was a finalist for the CGA Event Specialist of the Year and took six regular season podium finishes. He graduated from the University of Minnesota this spring with a degree in Neuroscience.

Matic Spec, Senior, Men's Tennis

Spec earned his fourth All-Big Ten honor of his career this season, earning a spot on the All B1G First Team. He will be a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree as well. Spec is one of the Gophers' captains and currently ranks 85th in the nation according to the Oracle/ITA Men's Singles Rankings. He graduated with a degree in Marketing this spring.
