University of Minnesota gymnast Megan Alvarez is taking in an experience of a lifetime this summer as she is studying abroad in London for six weeks this summer. Alvarez's time overseas involves a three-credit class accompanied by an internship placement with the London Marriott Hotel where she is working with their Sales and Marketing team. The junior's weekly schedule is setup so she takes classes and attends her internship Monday through Thursday and gets the privilege of having Friday to Sunday free for sightseeing and travel. Thus far, the Villa Park, Ill. native has visited Stonehenge, Bath and Oxford University with anticipated trips to Paris in the coming weeks.

The Univeristy of Minnesota returns home for a matchup with the five-time defending Big Ten Conference Champions in Michigan. The Gophers hope to rebound after they struggled at Illinois last weekend where they posted a 192.800. The meet begins at 6 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion. Parking will be limited due to a number of other Minnesota athletic events going on Saturday afternoon and night.

The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team began official practice this past Friday. Here is a glimpse of what the team accomplished through volunteer practices over the summer. Head coach Meg Stephenson and staff are excited to build off of the growth and improvement that the team gained, as well as, working with three freshman to the 2011 squad.
The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team has been in class for two weeks now, so let's catch up with the freshmen and see how they are transitioning to college life.
The team is currently holding volunteer practices until official team practices are begin Wednesday, September 23.
