Berg will sign autographs from 2:45 until the start of the match at 3:30 p.m. In between the first and second set, Berg will be honored out on the court for her accomplishments.
One of the biggest names on the international volleyball scene, Lindsey Berg first starred as a setter for the Golden Gophers. A three-time All-Big Ten selection, Berg was a four-year starter at Minnesota and ranks second all-time in Big Ten history in services aces (283) and fourth in assists (5,913). During her Gopher career, Berg helped lead Minnesota to a pair of Big Ten runner-up finishes and NCAA Regional appearances in 1999 and 2000. In 2000, she helped lead the Gophers to a remarkable 30-4 overall record and their highest winning percentage in school history at .882.
Berg went on to become the first player from the Minnesota volleyball
program to make the U.S. Olympic team in 2004. She followed with two Olympic appearances in 2008 and 2012, where she helped Team USA to back-to-back silver medals. A Honolulu, Hawaii native, Berg was named USA Volleyball Indoor Female Athlete of
the Year in 2008 and 2011 and was inducted into the Minnesota Hall of Fame and the the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame.
The Golden Gophers are on the road at No. 16 Wisconsin Wednesday, but return to the Sports Pavilion confines on Sunday. Match time is set for 1 p.m. against the Northwestern Wildcats.

Gopher Volleyball felt gratitude from it's fans and the entire University of Minnesota athletics department after last night's win over No. 5 Michigan State. With a crowd of 4,782 in the Sports Pavilion and televised live on ESPN2, the Gophers received an incredible amount of support. With tweets from Gopher basketball, football, baseball, men's and women's hockey to name a few, the outpour allowed Minnesota Volleyball (@GopherVBall) to trend in the Minneapolis area. Along with USA Volleyball head coach Karch Kiraly in the building (color analyst for ESPN), United States Olympian Lloy Ball was also in attendance to watch the match. The University of Minnesota volleyball program invited its season ticketholders, booster club and media members to an open practice at the Sports Pavilion on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013.
The Golden Gophers began practice at 9:30 a.m. in the warm Pavilion confines. It was the first chance for fans and season ticketholders to see the 2013 team. After warmups, Minnesota conducted scrimmages until 12:15 p.m. Following the scrimmage a meal was provided in the Williams Arena clubroom, where the Point U booster club as well as the season ticketholders were introduced to the Golden Gopher squad.
The Golden Gophers will also be out at the Minnesota State Fair on Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. A large contingent of the student-athletes as well as coaches will be on the U of M stage, located near the Food Building (at the corner of Dan Patch Avenue and Underwood Streets).
Minnesota opens the 2013 campaign on Aug. 30-31, at the UAB/Samford Challenge in Birmingham, Ala. The Golden Gophers open the home season, Sept. 6-7, hosting Ball State, Duke and Western Illinois as a part of the Diet Coke Classic.
2013 Gopher Volleyball First Practice
The University of Minnesota volleyball team conducted its first practice of the 2013 season. The Golden Gophers hit the Sports Pavilion court on Saturday, Aug. 10. Running in the morning, the Gophers held physical testing with their strength coach, Sara Wiley, while head coach Hugh McCutcheon ran the first practice of the 2013 season.
The Gopher head coach headed into the season answering five burning questions prior to the start of the 2013 season. The short queston/answer session can be found here.
