Third in our countdown and first in the record books is kicker Dan Nystrom. The wearer of No. 28 from 1999 to 2002 is the Gophers' all-time leading scorer. His 367-point career total is 99 points ahead of the next person on the list.
Nystrom's best known moment, immortalized in a Sports Illustrated photo, was when he booted a game-winning field goal at Penn State in 1999. The freshman kicker secured a 24-23 Gopher upset victory with a 32-yarder as time expired.
Nystrom led the team in scoring each of his four years in the Maroon and Gold. He scored a career-best 109 points as a sophomore, when he made the All-Big Ten Second Team. He holds Minnesota records for field goals in a bowl game (5 in the 2002 Music City Bowl) and career bowl game field goals (8). His 367 points, 71 field goals and 154 extra points were all Big Ten records at the time.
